How Our Care Support Works
Choosing a supported living home means finding a place where you can hold onto your independence, whilst knowing that the right support is there when you need it.
Here we explain exactly how our care support works — so you and your family can feel confident and fully informed.

Personal Care Support
Supported independence
Our supported living homes are designed for people who are largely independent in their day-to-day lives. For the most part, residents manage their own personal care — and we actively encourage that.
Where we come in is to supervise and assist with the parts that are genuinely difficult to manage alone: helping with buttons or tights, for example, or being on hand during showering to assist with the harder aspects and ensure safety throughout.
It's important to be clear that full personal care falls under our residential care homes rather than supported living. If you're unsure which level of care is right for you or your loved one, our assessment process — described below — is the right place to start.
Meals and Nutrition

All meals are prepared and served for residents across all of our homes. Breakfast, however, is something we encourage residents to manage themselves where they are able — items are always available in the communal kitchen, and that independent start to the day is something we actively support. If assistance is needed at breakfast, staff are on hand to help.
Residents are also always welcome to come over to the adjoining residential home for any meals and snacks throughout the day.
Your Care Assessment

Every prospective resident has an individual assessment with our manager before moving in — and on occasion a colleague will be involved too. This is a relaxed, informal conversation rather than a formal process. We'll talk through your needs and your routines, and it can take place either in your current home or here at one of our sites — many people find it works well to combine it with a visit.
The purpose is simply to make sure that supported living is the right step for your future. From that conversation, we make sure the support we put in place is right for you from day one.

Always Within Reach
Even though our residents are largely self-sufficient, every room is connected to a call bell alarm system as a reassuring safety net. Residents can activate this at any time — by pressing the button at the end of the lead or on the monitor in their room — and it will register immediately with staff, who will come straight over.
Staffing arrangements by location:
North Grange, Ipplepen — a dedicated member of staff is based on site, alongside the team at The Grange residential home.
Appletree Cottage, East Ogwell — staff visit at an allocated time as outlined in each resident's care plan. Appletree Cottage sits alongside Ogwell Grange, whose team is reachable via the call bell at any time.
Littlecourt, Totnes — staff visit at an allocated time as outlined in each resident's care plan. Littlecourt sits alongside Ridgecourt, whose team is reachable via the call bell at any time.
Bessmount, Kingskerswell — as Bessmount is a standalone location without an adjoining residential home, a staff member is on site at all times.
If Your Needs Change
If your needs increase, we'll carry out a reassessment to determine exactly what level of care is right for you. If your needs can no longer be fully managed within supported living, we'll look for a vacancy for you within our residential homes — our existing residents re always given first priority.
